Two Exceptional Heritage Projects in Punjab Honored at UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation:

👉 Nestled within Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s 19th-century city wall in Amritsar, the meticulously restored Rambagh Gate stands as a testament to architectural brilliance.

Honored with UNESCO's "Award of Excellence," this three-story marvel functions as a traditional market, government school, and municipal printing press.

 The restoration journey integrated time-honored construction methods and locally procured materials, notably Nanakshahi bricks set in lime mortar. 

Going beyond structural enhancements, enthusiastic public involvement has breathed new life into the community, turning this historic site into a dynamic hub for cultural exchange.

👉Pipal Haveli, a heritage rural homestay situated in the village of Nawan Pind Sardaran in the Gurdaspur district of Punjab, has been recognized for its sustainable development.

It is noteworthy that Pipal Haveli is owned by the Sangha family, who have conscientiously undertaken the restoration and preservation of their ancestral property.

Furthermore, the village was honored with the "Best Tourism Village" award from Punjab's Ministry of Tourism in September of this year.

Enveloped within a historic 'haveli' or enclosed area, Pipal Haveli embodies a modern, community-focused, multi-purpose educational structure firmly grounded in sustainable principles. 

Located in rural Punjab, it prioritizes ecological and traditional building methods, employing locally sourced materials and the vernacular architectural language. 

The project team meticulously integrated the villagers' rich traditions in building and craft production into the design and functionality of the haveli.

Functioning as a central hub for knowledge exchange across generations, Pipal Haveli actively supports women's empowerment through initiatives like the BaRi Collective.

 This involves programs that enhance women's livelihoods through environmentally conscious craft practices.

 The project serves as a compelling example of how the integration of nature and culture can act as a resilient, transformative force for community enrichment and economic prosperity.
