✔️ Periyar National Park:

 

Founded in 1950 by the Government of Kerala.

✅ Location: Thekkady, Idukki district and Pathanamthitta districts. 

✅ Total Area: Approximately 925 square kilometers. 

Periyar is one of the most well-known national parks in Kerala. It is renowned for its scenic beauty, diverse wildlife, and the picturesque Periyar Lake. The park is home to elephants, tigers, sambar deer, and various species of birds.

Founded in 1984 by the Government of Keral

Established in 1978 by the Government of Kerala.

✅ Total Area: Approximately 97 square kilometers

Eravikulam National Park is known for its rolling grasslands, shola forests, and the endangered Nilgiri tahr. The park is also home to Anamudi, the highest peak in South India, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape.

Established in 2003 by the Government of Kerala. 

✅ Location: Idukki District, near Munnar

✅ Total Area: Approximately 7.5 square kilometers

This park is part of the Anamalai sub-cluster of the Western Ghats, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is characterized by its dense evergreen forests, high-altitude grasslands, and rich biodiversity, including endemic species like the Nilgiri wood-pigeon and the broad-tailed grassbird.

✅ Founded in 2003 by the Government of Kerala.

✅ Location: Idukki District

✅ Total Area: Approximately 12.82 square kilometers

Mathikettan Shola National Park is known for its undulating terrain, montane grasslands, and unique flora and fauna. The park is home to several endemic species of birds, butterflies, and amphibians.


✔️ Pampadum Shola National Park:


Established in 2003 by the Government of Kerala. 

✅ Location: Idukki District, near Munnar

✅ Total Area: Approximately 11.75 square kilometers

Pampadum Shola National Park is characterized by its dense montane rainforests, rolling hills, and meandering streams. It is home to a variety of wildlife, including the endangered Nilgiri wood-pigeon, Nilgiri langur, and the Indian giant squirrel.
